Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter!!

June 26-28

#7 was our largest tournament and was attended by the most spectators!  We wish to thank those grandparents, parents, siblings and friends who took the time to support their fencer.  Fencing is not an easy sport to follow with the untrained eye, but once you understand what is happening, you get hooked!  The team event on Friday evening was a blast, and we want to thank members of the Orlando Fencing Club for coming out and giving our teams a challenge.  It certainly seems that if we want to see more team events in Central Florida, it will be up to WGFA!

Two of our newest Y10 fencers, the Wilcox twins (far right), wrestled 1st and 3rd from other Foundation students. This tournament was reminiscent of TB6, where a young and inexperienced lefty defied the odds and took first place. Tied for 3rd was Alexander Chancy (second from left). Preston Altman (far left) made a successful grab for the silver! Both Preston and Alexander attended our Y10 Fencing Camp last week!

Carson Nampon (second from right), our most experienced and accomplished Y10 competitor, earned the gold in yet another TBF! On his heels, was a crafty southpaw, John Paul Valentine (second from left). Tied for 3rd was Sara Carrasquillo (far right) and Brendon Grover (far left). Brendon's family is moving after Nationals and we'll miss them dearly!

Spenser Nampon (far right) takes the lead again and is followed closely by Matthew Breen (second from right) and Donovan Cacace (second from left).  As many of our competitors our out of town, these three gentlemen graciously devoted some of their time to provide a real challenge to our newest students.  David Oswalt (far left) tied for bronze, and has only been fencing for a few weeks!

E'lese Mathis (far right) followed her TBF6 bronze with a gold medal finish in our 7th installment!  She also won the gold in this season's National qualifier.  Taking the silver was our earliest female student, Carlene Carter (second from right).  Jennifer Gibson (second from left), one our vet fencers, tied for the bronze with Samantha Vaught (far left).  Way to go!

crossbones  Team ( F3 & UP)
Friday, June 26

From the distant realm of Winter Park, ventured powerful warriors from the Orlando Fencing Club. They fought well. They fought with honor. They stood at the base of Mount WGFA and stared fear in the eyes. In the end, the proud warriors fell, but not without a fight between champions. Congratulations, WGFA team! These are the same young men travelling to Texas for Summer Nationals.
